John Prescott has played trumpet in both the classical and jazz worlds since 1972, and has performed regionally, nationally and internationally. He has also taught music theory and composition at the college level since. 1986. Dr. Prescott has degrees in music theory and composition from Florida State University and from the University of Kansas where he studied composition with John Pozdro and James Barnes. His published compositions include works for band, orchestra, chorus, solo and small ensemble. In addition to the Sounds Pretty Good Combo, he is also a founding member of the Brandon Street Stompers Dixieland Jazz Band.
